BLANCANIEVES (2012)
screening and live score (U.S. premiere) w/ special guests Alfonso Villalonga (accordion/ukulele/banjo), & Julian Koster (musical saw)
February 18 & 20, 2015

On February 18 and 20, 2015, Wordless Music presents the U.S. premiere of BLANCANIEVES: a live film score and screening of Pablo Berger’s silent black-and-white retelling of the Snow White story, set in 1920s Andalusia. Composer Alfonso Villalonga joins the Wordless Music Orchestra and conductor Ryan McAdams, along with special guest Julian Koster (Neutral Milk Hotel, The Music Tapes) on musical saw. These performances are fully free and open to all ages (no tickets or reservations needed).
Based on the Snow White fairy tale, BLANCANIEVES was written and directed by acclaimed Spanish director Pablo Berger in 2012. Set in a romantic version of 1920s Andalusia, in which Snow White and the dwarves are traveling bullfighters, the silent black-and-white fantasy swept the 2013 Gaudí awards (known as the Spanish Oscars), winning Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actress, and Best Catalan-Language Film, among others, and was one of the year’s most popular films in Spain.
