In October, Wordless Music presents our first show in New Orleans, and it’s going to be a memorable one. On Saturday, October 10, at the Saenger Theatre downtown, Wordless Music Orchestra performs a live score with screening to the extraordinary 2012 film BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD, joined by the film’s original director and composer, Benh Zeitlin and Dan Romer, along with Louisiana’s own Lost Bayou Ramblers and conductor Ryan McAdams.
A word about ticket fees for this show: being a special event, it was our intention to keep tickets affordable for as many people in New Orleans as possible, which is why we priced most seats in the house at $20 and $30, and the remainder at $40-$60. We were more than a bit surprised, then, to learn that these formerly lower-priced tickets somehow ended getting marked up from $20 to $36, and $30 to $46 — an increase of 50-80% — once the venue and Ticketmaster had tacked on their “convenience,” “service,” and “facility” charges. When we protested and asked for an explanation of how these charges were itemized, we were told that the fees were “standard,” and that no further detail would be given. For these reasons, we encourage you to avoid online sales for this show, and save yourself Ticketmaster’s ridiculous fees by buying at the Saenger Theatre box office, 1111 Canal Street. We also sincerely regret and apologize for the inconvenience, and for perennial indecent greed.
